What is Christian Universalism?
"Universalism" is a theological concept, with "Christian Universalism" being applying the universalism concept to Christianity. Universalism, according to Merriam-Webster, is "a theological doctrine that all human beings will eventually be saved." Universalism has been seen in multiple religions. Outside of Christianity, it can be seen in the Baháʼí Faith, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Neopaganism, Sikhism, Unitarian Universalism, and many others. Christian Universalism is the Universalism theological doctrine being achieved through Christianity. According to Wikipedia, "Christian universalism is a school of Christian theology focused around the doctrine of universal reconciliation – the view that all human beings will ultimately be saved and restored to a right relationship with God." Christian Universalism is also known as "universal reconciliation" or "universal salvation."
Essentially, we believe that - for non-believers - eternal damnation/punishment (a belief held by infernalists) or ceasing to exist/destroying the consciousness (a belief held by annihilationists) does not happen, and that they will be saved by Jesus after atoning for sins in Gehenna (one of the original translations for hell). Christian universalism is NOT a denomination or another religion separate from Christianity. It differs from other religions who abide by universalism (specifically Unitarian Universalism) in that humanity can only be saved through Christ and Christ alone. The defining factor is that Christ will save everyone.
